Splitting function in pp and PbPb collisions at 5.02 TeV

ثبت نشده
چکیده

A measurement of the splitting function in pp and PbPb collisions at a center of mass energy of 5.02 TeV per nucleon pair is presented. The virtuality evolution of partons traversing the hot QCD medium created in a heavy ion collision is potentially modified due to interactions with the color charges of the medium. This measurement probes this phenomenon by measuring the generalized fragmentation function, or splitting function, over a wide range of jet transverse momentum and various collision centrality selections. The shared momentum fraction of two subjets resulting from a parton splitting is observed to be modified towards a more imbalanced fraction in central PbPb collisions compared to peripheral PbPb and pp collisions. In addition, the measurement in pp collisions is compared to the prediction of the splitting function from the PYTHIA and HERWIG event generators.

Femtoscopy with Identified Hadrons in pp, pPb, and PbPb Collisions in CMS

Abstract: Short-range correlations of identified charged hadrons in pp ( √ s = 0.9, 2.76, and 7 TeV), pPb (sNN = 5.02 TeV), and peripheral PbPb collisions ( sNN = 2.76 TeV) are studied with the CMS detector at the LHC. Charged pions, kaons, and protons at low momentum and in laboratory pseudorapidity |η| < 1 are identified via their energy loss in the silicon tracker. The two-particle correlati...

Evidence for transverse-momentum- and pseudorapidity- dependent event-plane fluctuations in PbPb and pPb collisions

A systematic study of the factorization of long-range azimuthal two-particle correlations into a product of single-particle anisotropies is presented as a function of pT and η of both particles and as a function of the particle multiplicity in PbPb and pPb collisions. The data were taken with the CMS detector for PbPb collisions at √ sNN = 2.76 TeV and pPb collisions at√sNN = 5.02 TeV, covering...

Probing novel long-range correlation phenomena in pPb collisions with identified particles at CMS

Observation of a long-range near-side two-particle correlation (known as the Ridge) in high-multiplicity pp and pPb collisions opened up new opportunities of exploring novel QCD dynamics in small collision systems. To further investigate the origin of this phenomenon, studies of two-particle correlations with identified K s and Lambda trigger particles in 5.02 TeV pPb collisions are presented, ...

W boson studies in pPb and PbPb collisions with CMS

The electroweak W bosons do not participate in the strong interaction, and thus constitute clean probes of the initial state of nuclear collisions. They provide a unique constraint on the nuclear parton distributions, in particular on the antiquarks from the sea. A first analysis of PbPb data has confirmed the medium-blind characteristic of the electroweak bosons. With the new pPb data, collect...

Elliptic flow of charm and strange hadrons in high-multiplicity pPb collisions at sNN = 8.16 TeV

First measurements of the elliptic flow of prompt D0 mesons in comparison to KS, Λ, Ξ−, and Ω− hadrons in pPb collisions at √ sNN = 8.16 TeV are reported. The results are based on data collected by the CMS experiment at the LHC and are presented for particles at midrapidity with transverse momentum up to 8 GeV/c after correcting for the contribution of back-to-back jet correlations. The results...
